I am leaving come stuff in the class room

Wes Sherman <b.sherman@...>

Hello, all

We are teaching the General license class in the room at the Red Cross building.  I use a scope and some other props for visual aids.  I don't feel like lugging them back and forth, so I am leaving some things in the room until the class is finished.  Let me know if this bothers anyone.

Froze Toes is this Sunday!

Don Moore <km0r@...>

I apologize for more emails, but I still need a couple of more volunteers for the bike race this Sunday, February 27th.  We will be operating from about 1145am until around 330pm.  The race is usually over by then…  You’ll need a mobile 2 meter radio in your vehicle and an antenna with a little gain to work the event as we run a simplex net.

The operators I have confirmed at this time are:

N0YZS

AE0S

N0AXZ

KE0MI

KM0R

KC0MGG

N0PBM

N0OFJ

N0UBC

KV0S

If you can work the event with us, we’d be glad to have you!  Please send me an email to km0r@... to let me know of your interest in participating.  If you already emailed me and are not on the list above, please email me again as I have missed your original email.

Thanks and 73,

Don M. – KM0R

Field Day 2010

Michael James Hauan <ac0g@...>

It's out! The ARRL 2011 Field Day information packet. Perfect for bedtime reading!

Perhaps it's not too early to give some thought to what we will do this year. We have some great gear at the club station that we should use as well as what various individuals can bring. CW, satellite, PSK31, regular voice, sstv, foxhunting, remote control ... so much to do and so little time, so let's develop a plan.

I've attached the ARRL doc here so we can find it easily in our listserver archives, but it's also available online at arrl.org.

Happy full moon!

Re: February 2011 CMRA minutes

Michael James Hauan <ac0g@...>

Thanks, Bill!

Just a reminder that the listserver retains these minutes (and all emails sent through the listserver) in an archive, the link to which you will find at the bottom of each email (including this one).

So, if you want to refer back to some subject previously discussed, the archives are one way to do it.  Basic club documents, like the minutes, you will also find on the club website.

Old business:
K0YBN had received a call from some concluding that our old web site is a disservice displaying .old data and wrong information. President suggested that this item was on his agenda and referred to KM0R, who referred to KD0IRU.
Jake, KD0IRU, reported on. progress on the new club website.  It is not yet ready to go live, but in-progress and maybe ready by next month. After some discussion, the club is hoping to see the new web site for the next meeting.

Dave, KD0EAG, brought up the place of the forums/board, and agreed to wait until later in the meeting for update.

Don, KM0R, announced the need for a volunteer to convert the old data that has been archived on the old web site. These data exist now in different formats from pdf to whatever. Club agreed that the data should be converted to the common form of PDF files. N0AXZ volunteered to convert data to PDF, as KM0R supplies the old files from the old web site.

Mike, AC0G, reminded the club that new license classes would begin the third Saturday of this month, 2/19/11. Wes, AB0SE, and Nathan, AC0MZ, are helping AC0G to get it all together. Any one wanting to help out is welcome to join this group for 8 Saturdays in a row.
Mike is getting club station cleaned up, as these classes will be held there. Magazines are yet to be disposed of including old QSTs from 30’s. Club agreed these old magazines should go to Max, KC0SRL. Dale, AE0S, also has old magazines, if anyone wants them. Some space will be freed up as these magazines get moved out. Station can be opened at request from members. Mike, AC0G, Dale, AE0S, and Don, KM0R, have keys. Club emergency generator was last started 2years ago.

There was no discussion of frozen toes.

Don, KM0R, reported that kits are available for the club for muting a radio, as it monitors repeaters for emergency opportunities. The mute will be opened by tone from repeater. Muting will open and then go off in 60 seconds, so you can monitor what is going on and take any action you want after hearing why the net is being called up. The kits can be functioning on 76 and/or 61.

Don, N0UBC, reported that the Wednesday net had QNI of 30 2 weeks ago and 18 last week.

Daniel, KC0UTW, reminded the club of the auction. Bob, K0YBN, reported that the room is reserved. Pam, KD0GRQ, is one of 2 coordinators for getting auction organized. There is the need for a second volunteer. Please get in touch with Pam.

New business:
John, KC0HSB, reported that the newsletter goes on the forum just a few days before the meeting and that is when the minutes first appear, as well. This was the procedure John inherited. We could make newsletter separate from minutes, and publish minutes soon after the meeting to which they refer. Discussion on timeliness of these processes lead to the following:

Mike, AC0G, reported that there would be changes to take advantage of with the new coming web site, earlier referenced. Email is probably going to be the preferred avenue of dissemination of minutes, and other information to the club. An Email list-server will be used for information sharing among members. Archives could be made available in a dynamic real time connection point for the club. System needs accurate email lists and we could seed the list server, which could be up and running as reported by Don, KM0R. Web sites need to be nurtured and kept up to date for public information sharing. Management of mail in the system is by the user. K0YBN asked about using gmail account to receive and mchsi account to send to the list. The system Don has up will accommodate two email accounts.

Motion was approved to have Don and Mike build the list server and make it live asap. Don will seed this server with the list of emails that we are capturing in the check-in list now circulating. Don will also send a message via the forums system to say get moved over to this club list server. The forums/board system will eventually go away.

Dave, KD0EAG, pointed out the some of the features we have on the forums system will probably be lost in the list server application.

Minutes can be emailed via list server soon after the meeting. Minutes will also be provided to the web master for posting on the web site.

It was moved and approved to retire the newsletter for the time being to see if we need a newsletter in the future..

A simple link to the newsletter or a specific item that might be of local interest or even one we might take some action on might still be useful.

From time to time I've put things in the CMRA newsletter from the ARRL Mo
Section News. Since it came today, I thought I'd share it with the group so
you can see what it is, if you're not already subscribed to it.

Do you think it should be posted here each month, or should it be left up to
individual members to subscribe if they want this info?

FEBRUARY 2011 MISSOURI SECTION NEWS

DALE BAGLEY, KØKY MO SM

I want to encourage all those that enjoy operating in contests
to mark their calendars for April 2 and 3, 2011. Those are the dates of
the Missouri QSO party that’s sponsored by the Boeing Employees
Amateur Radio Society of St. Louis. To get the rules and other
information go to http://w0ma.org/mo_qso_party.htm and at the bottom of
the page click on the rules link.

I had the pleasure of visiting with Jerry Gentry, WAØH who
lives in Springfield, MO, at the OMAR Hamfest last month. He told me
about the latest version of the logging program he had written called
MicroLog. Jerry has just upgraded his MicroLog making sure that it can
run under most Microsoft operating systems and he has added several new
features to earlier versions. MicroLog can be used to assist operators
who want to keep track of contacts and in addition it will keep track
of records for awards like WAS, DXCC, Counties, 10 x 10, IOTA and about
half-dozen other awards. One of the features of the program I like is a
built in database for U.S. Amateur Radio ops. FYI, Jerry’s website
is www.wa0h.com .

JANUARY 2011 HAMFEST (REPORT

North Kansas City Hamfest was held on January 15, 2011 in
North Kansas City, MO. This was the second year for the NKC Hamfest
sponsored by the Northland Emergency Response Group. Everyone I talked
to at the event thought the Hamfest was a great success. The Forums
were well attended and there were several major Amateur Radio vendors
participating.

On January 29, 2011 the St. Louis & Suburban Radio Club
held their Winterfest in the Gateway Convention Center in Collinsville,
IL. Again this year all the tables were sold and attendance was
excellent. The SLSRC Winterfest Committee did their usual outstanding
job of hosting this year’s event. MO SM Dale Bagley, KØKY was
pleased to be joined at the ARRL Table by Ron Lowrance, K4SX President,
Missouri DX/Contest Club and Assistant Midwest Director. Ron promoted
the ARRL Sanctioned 2011 WØ DXCC Convention in Leavenworth, KS. The
convention is July 23, 2011 at the Leavenworth Riverfront Community
Center. The latest updates go to http://www.w0dxcc.com/ .

The Hannibal Amateur Radio Club announced that Tony Gilliland,
WØPGL, was unanimously voted as our HARC 2010 member of the year.
Tony, who also serves as the HARC officer, was honored for all of his
hard work he had done for our club, currently and over the years. That
includes keeping the club repeaters going, doing the club paperwork,
taking care of the clubs finances, officer duties and being a great
member. Tony was to be presented his award at our club supper, on
February 5th, 2011 at Fiddlesticks restaurant.

The Boeing Employee Amateur Radio Society has announced
that the 2011 Missouri QSO Party will be held April 2 and 3rd. The
categories are MO Fixed, MO Rover, MO Multi-Op, MO QRP, US/VE, and DX.
CW QSOs count 2 points/contact and SSB contacts count 1 point. The BEARS
are making an effort to increase the number of MO Section members that
are participating in the QSO Party. There are 114 counties in Missouri
and the independent City of St. Louis. Check out the website and get all
the detailed information about the MO QSO Party.
http://www.w0ma.org/mo_qso_party.htm Then start planning to be part of
this year’s Party, I know you’ll have some fun.

The Mississippi Valley DX and Contest Club, has set its budget
for funding DXpeditions. The MVDXCC has budget part of these funds to
support the Spratly Island DXpedition. Jay, KØJFI reported that the
Club Christmas Dinner Party was a huge success with approximately 40
attendees enjoying good food and camaraderie.

The Heart of America ARC joined with the Kansas City Area Blind
ARC in celebrating at their annual Holiday Dinner. It was announced
that the dues for 2011 would be the same as 2010 and that they would be
electing the 2011 HARC club officials at the next meeting. HARC club

The first of 8 classes is this
Saturday from 9a to noon at the club station.

All are welcome -- even if you're not studying for the test
and just want to "buff" your knowledge and skills and
especially if you can "Elmer" the rest of us!

Please reply or call me if you plan on attending and let me
know if you need an ARRL manual since I can get them at a
somewhat reduced rate. If you have a manual for the
current question pool that you are willing to donate, please
let me know that, too! (There is no cost to take the
course itself.)
