A Resource of Possible Interest

John W. Smith

Greetings, fellow hams,

One of the topics we covered at last night's CMRA meeting was the messages that come to our club's e-mail address ( k0si@arrl.net ). We've been getting promotional messages from BridgeCom Systems. They're probably of greatest interest to those of you who do DMR.

However, it could be worth your while to see just what they do offer. They not only sell radios and other equipment, but they offer instructional resources as well.

It seems best to unsubscribe from BridgeCom e-mails at our club address and make the suggestion that, if you're interested in what they offer, you can choose to subscribe to their messages at an e-mail address of your choice.

Their web address is:

https://www.bridgecomsystems.com/

If there are any objections to their membership, please let our officers know.

Also, I might not make the meeting tonight.  Our club finances are $5,469.24 in checking and 2,318.99 in the CD.

Hi Chris, hope this email is ok to contact you at.  Last Saturday the
group agreed that we should try to have a topic each week to discuss
and learn from.  Myron suggested I contact you to see if you could
send to the club email requesting topics of interest. To salt the
list, here are some topics Im interested in:  multi-antenna
attenuation;review of local vhf/uhf nets and frequencies; antenna
tuners 101; use of ferrite beads too address interference; effects of
coax length on efficiency; use of baluns/ununs.

thanks, john h KE0TVT

Re: Weller butane soldering iron safety hazard

Fred Dittrich

Myron

Well, the information in the retail packaging says yes, but after I unscrew the soldering iron tip I only see a faint blue line of flame upon each piezo click. Also it is tricky to get to light in soldering iron configuration but once it does I see the catalytic screen vigorously glowing orange. The price is very modest so you might get one and take it out for a spin yourself. I got mine on Amazon.

On the near side you can see the black flame heat adjustment slide, with the OFF position as shown in the jpg, and NO detent or catch to prevent the slide to moving to the on position and filling your tool box with butane. Yikes! The solution is simple: apply a small piece of electrical tape touching both the slide and the slit in which it slides.
