Thanks for the information and good source for construction of face masks. My wife Susan has sewed face masks for the both of us, that has a pocket where additional filter medium can be inserted. For example, over the weekend I discovered a vacuum filter with a pore size of 0.1 microns. This is one third the pore size of a N95 face mask filter. So we are planning on cutting pieces of this material and placing it in the pocket of the face masks. About the same time I found a zip bag with N95 face masks, that I purchased in 2016. Good news and bad news. It turns out that 3M N95 face masks have an expiration date. Namely, the foam rubber strip around the nose degrades and crumbles. I found another N95 that I had worn while mowing my lawn; the foam rubber strip was crumbling. So, I think that while we are in the midst of the pandemic, we need to consider making out own. Fred, do you know if the material mentioned in the Youtube is available? 73 Tim W0TES ******************************************** ----- Original Message -----

Thanks to Bill for the reminder. Yesterday, I assembled and tested a 2 element wire yagi aiming northeast/southwest, with a resulting tested 6 db gain over my dipole. That bone crushing cw signal on 40 you hear may be N0SSM running 100 watts. BTW, last year in the MOQP, I made 117 QSOs on 80-40-20 cw, easily. (brag) It's a different kind of fun for me to be the target of a pileup! Jim, N0SSM On Fri, Apr 3, 2020 at 8:49 PM Bill McFarland - N0AXZ <billmcfarland10@...> wrote:

Group, Since we are all shut in the house for a while, we might have some time to play RADIO! K0PHP, NO0I, N0SSM and I have been discussing how we would try to work the Missouri QSO Party tomorrow, and have decided to enter as a club, (CMRA). That just allows all our scores to be accumulated in the contest as a club entry, as well as individual entries of our own logs. If you have never entered a contest before, this is an excellent starting point. You can try some digital (probably not FT8), SSB or CW on the common ham bands. Read the instructions and rules at: http://w0ma.org/index.php/missouri-qso-party Now think about logging your QSOs into the "template log" they have there, (call NO0I for help) and did you get that our exchange is BOO? If you have a logging program, especially if it accommodates contests use that, not the spreadsheet on the BEARS site. It begins at 9:00 AM tomorrow. You don't have to work all day, just how ever much time you want to spend. We will be monitoring 146.76 for help and support. It goes til 11:00 PM Saturday, and after a pause, begins again Sunday at 9:00 PM and runs to 4:00 PM. Have fun, stay safe, and wash your hands. See you on the radio. -- Bill N0AXZ |

I tested on March 17th and don’t have call letters, guess it’s been three weeks, and I have to tell you it’s like waiting for Christmas. I am guessing this is standard. |

I just got this, this morning: On Sunday night, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, drugs often used to treat malaria and recently touted by President Donald Trump as a possible “game-changer” in the fight against the China-originated novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. The United States Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) announced in a statement on Sunday that the FDA will allow the drugs to be “donated to the Strategic National Stockpile to be distributed and prescribed by doctors to hospitalized teen and adult patients with COVID-19, as appropriate, when a clinical trial is not available or feasible,” a Politico report said. The statement noted that “Sandoz donated 30 million doses of hydroxychloroquine to the stockpile and Bayer donated 1 million doses of chloroquine.” Trump made it clear weeks ago that his administration would work to fast-track promising drugs like hydroxychloroquine with the FDA, all in an effort to combat COVID-19. Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is on the same page as President Trump when it comes to the popular anti-malaria drugs, permitting trials of hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, and azithromycin to commence in his state. “Let’s see how it works,” Trump said Sunday, with regard to the New York trials. “It may. It may not.” On the same day as the FDA authorization, Novartis Chief Executive Vas Narasimhan told a Swiss newspaper that hydroxychloroquine is our “Pre-clinical studies in animals as well as the first data from clinical studies show that hydroxychloroquine kills the coronavirus,” Narasimhan told Sonntags Zeitung. “We’re working with Swiss hospitals on possible treatment protocols for the clinical use of the drug, but it’s too early to say anything definitively.” The French government also cleared a larger pathway for the use of chloroquine this weekend, officially sanctioning the drug for certain patients infected with the novel virus, The Daily Wire noted biggest hope in combating COVID-19. “The French government has officially sanctioned prescriptions of chloroquine to treat certain coronavirus patients,” France 24 English reported Saturday. “This ensures continued treatment of patients who have been treated for several years for a chronic condition with this drug, but also allows a temporary authorization to allow certain patients with coronavirus to benefit from this therapeutic route,” France’s director general of health Jérôme Salomon said. The move from the French government comes on the heels of infectious disease specialist Didier Raoult announcing new clinical results, which can be accessed here, that show 78 out of 80 patients treated with chloroquine recovered within five days, a report from Trustnodes said. The five-day recovery time is “considerably” faster “than the usual 14 days and for some it can go up to 28 days if they recover at all,” Trustnodes added. ******************************************************************* ----- Original Message -----

First on Youtube, then on the news, then it popped up during the Vice President's daily update, three days ago. The French started a human trial, more than two weeks ago, and are reporting very positive results. The study is entitled, "Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin (Z-pak) as a treatment of Covid-19: results of an open label non-randomized clinical trial." The combination of both drugs produces 100 percent cure in five days compared to a control group that was still testing positive over the same time period. But the fantastic news is that both drugs are already FDA approved, and President Trump is already having the FDA evaluate this for Wuhan Virus application. This came up during his press conference, a couple of days ago. Ten thousand units of this drug have already been sent to New York city, and they begin using it today. We should start hearing results in about one week. Hydroxychloroquine has already been used in New Orleans to benefit critical cases, and last night Laura Ingraham interviewed a doctor that has applied the above mentioned drugs to 350 patients. Hydroxychloroquine is an anti-malarial drug, developed after WW-II, and it and Azithromycin are cheap, off patent drugs, whose efficacy and side effects are well know So, "keep the faith." Good news is coming soon, and we are going to beat this pandemic. 73 Tim (W0TES) |

Beware clickbait, surveys, ads and polls
John Beatty
I'm on social media so I can keep up with family and friends, especially our grandkids. They're out there knowing there is extra time on our hands now. I've noticed a huge surge in polls, ads, offers, and surveys. Common sense should rule. E.g., many polls and surveys want your income, email and and other PII. Just be extra careful out there.

I have three hand held. Two baofengs and one wouxoun. Seating about ten foot from the paper shredder, I can turn it on using my baofengs. I don't have that problem with the wouxoun. When doing this low tec., test, I am using programmed repeater frequencies. Now you can analyze this all you want. That is my story and I am staying the course. This is Deja Vu at its finest. Several of the veteran Hams (I’m not One) have been discussing that radio the past couple years. We found them being sold at Walmart where the toys are advertising as walkie talkies.... Nothing about needing a license to use on the label, sold in 2 per pack and 4 per pack. Besides that we put it on a spectrum analyzer.
