We had a good turnout at the club station today.
Fred KD0PAI, Mac K4CHS, Jake KD0IRU, Wes AB0SE, Dale AE0S, Bill N0AXZ, and myself. We determined that the beam works. SWR on 20m and 15m measured less then 2:1 for large parts of the band. On 10m, it measured less than 2:1 only on the very bottom of the band but still less than 3:1 for the rest. The rotor works fine. The rotor controller didn't seem to consistently read the direction, though. Dale plans on revisiting that problem. The 80m/40m dipole appears in sad shape. Its feed line -- 450 ohm twin-lead may be re-usable, though. We developed a plan to connect the existing feed line to 2 new wires -- one sling-shotted over the north tree by the parking lot and another sling-shotted over the tree in the front yard. The end-fed HF antenna had also lost its far mount point, though still seems to be connected at the feed point on the tower. We will also look for a place to re-secure the far end and test it out. When we accomplish these tasks we'll have coverage on 80-40-20-15-10m bands for the Missouri QSO Party with a combination of three antennae so we can have at least a couple or three rigs going. I'm not sure we'll need VHF or UHF for that contest. Got into a great chat about Smith Charts, line lengths, SWR, and antenna matching! Much dusting of cobwebs and doubt-filled learning ensued. 73! Sorry to miss the antenna day. I was doing family stuff. You mentioned Smith charts. Here is a great tutorial in videos about Smith charts and the program to test your own antennas. Enjoy. http://ae6ty.com/Smith_Charts.html Dave, KV0S On 01/15/2012 12:30 AM, Michael James Hauan wrote: We had a good turnout at the club station today. |

Thanks for the link! I've downloaded the program and tested it a bit. I noticed it will import data from RigExpert analyzers so I'll give that a whirl with mine.
