The "twist" in the radio waves is "Orbital Angular Momentum". If you're interested in a more technical explanation of this phenomenon, take a look at the following document to be published in the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation: http://www.lunduniversity.lu.se/o.o.i.s?id=24732&postid=2062936 The paper is a little hard to follow with all it's equations.
