Joplin Update

Below is the latest information from the SEMA conference call this morning:

 

JOPLIN/JASPER COUNTY:  Fatalities – 142.  MSSU shelter population is 140.  Power outages is down to 7,000.  Developed missing persons list by address.  1,000 houses should have power restored by end of day. 4 shelters available for emergency responders.  Conducted mosquito fogging overnight. 9,985 tetanus shots.  3328 – total injured. 14 dogs in field.

MODOT:  Assisting with debris removal.  Big mission will be assisting with restoring traffic signals.

SEMA:  SEOC remains open 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. until further notice.

MASS CARE:  Shelter numbers same as reported locally.  The Department of Social Services along with USDA is implementing a Disaster Food Assistance program in Joplin today.  This is for residents with significant property damage and/or income loss as a result of Sunday’s tornado.  You must meet disaster gross income limit guidelines, have lived or worked in the 64801, 64802, 64803 and 64804  zip codes and suffered property damage, reduced income or loss of income.  Applications will be taken from 7 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. today through June 9, 2011 at the Mills Anderson Justice Center on the MSSU campus.

HEALTH:   Working with Joplin to find mosquito abatement resources.

EPA:  70 facility assessments conducted today.  Continue to do asbestos monitoring.

PSC:  Empire thinks they will get all customers capable of receiving customers up today. Still walking.

HIGHWAY PATROL:  Continuing operations as normal.  Have brought in fresh group of officers this morning through Saturday.  Patrol is there for the long-term.  Will continue to work on notifications of families and working on missing persons list.

NATIONAL GUARD:  Primarily security missions, traffic controls – 125 soldiers.

HUMANE SOCIETY:  22 animals in co-location shelter – staying there through Sunday.  433 animals in main regional shelter.
