Fred, A Windows 10 update caused the Soundmodem software to be non-responsive. As a reminder, the dual mode feature at K0PHP-10 will be going away late this summer, and Vara-FM will be the only supported mode on the node. It is my understanding, Higher speeds (9600) are only supported in Vara with the paid registration version.

The unlicensed Vara FM is still 5 to 7 times faster than the 1200 bps AX.25 packet communication rate. I do not recommend purchasing the license unless you plan on using the digipeat function, or are a heavy Winlink user.

In the radio setup window the context is communication rates between the computer and the radio, and not the on-air speeds. I ended up paying just because I appreciate the work he put into developing the software and protocol. I have yet to put in the time and money to get myself up and running with a setup that will take full advantage of the speed the paid version offers.
