K0PHP-10 down?
Fred Dittrich
Hi
On 144.970 it says: *** Starting to call K0PHP-10 *** Opening serial port COM3; 9600 baud; Kantronics *** Connecting to K0PHP-10 *** Disconnected at 2022/05/14 13:18:37 *** Disconnect reported. 73 Fred AE0FD |

Fred, A Windows 10 update caused the Soundmodem software to be non-responsive. As a reminder, the dual mode feature at K0PHP-10 will be going away late this summer, and Vara-FM will be the only supported mode on the node. I highly encourage users with an interest to install Vara FM for increased speeds when the SHTF (bad things occur). On Sat, May 14, 2022 at 8:21 AM Fred Dittrich <fdittric@...> wrote: Hi |

It is my understanding, Higher speeds (9600) are only supported in Vara with the paid registration version.

John,
The unlicensed Vara FM is still 5 to 7 times faster than the 1200 bps AX.25 packet communication rate. I do not recommend purchasing the license unless you plan on using the digipeat function, or are a heavy Winlink user.

In the radio setup window the context is communication rates between the computer and the radio, and not the on-air speeds. Thanks for the idea though. 73 Fred AE0FD At 12:20 PM 5/15/2022, you wrote: It is my understanding, Higher speeds (9600) are only supported in Vara with the paid registration version. |

I ended up paying just because I appreciate the work he put into developing the software and protocol. I have yet to put in the time and money to get myself up and running with a setup that will take full advantage of the speed the paid version offers. As Chris said even in slow mode it is WAY faster than 1200bps. 73, KC0EZE On Sun, May 15, 2022 at 2:33 PM Fred Dittrich <fdittric@...> wrote:

As someone who wrote and distributed shareware years ago, I always supported the developers of the software I use. I paid. Bob, N6VZO On 5/15/2022 2:52 PM, KC0EZE Ernest
